Dinan
Useful Links
It is stated that Dinan is the most visited town in Brittany and for good reason; the Benedictine priory dates back to the 11th century and the first ramparts were built in the late 13th century. There is a XV century leaning tower and belfry, a basilica, two very impressive Romanesque and gothic churches, cobbled streets (of note Rue de Jerzual which carries one down to the old harbour, passing a multitude of artists studios. On Thursday mornings there is a wonderful food and clothes market in Le Place du Guesglin.
The port of Dinan in the valley, 250 ft below the town, is a stunning area, in season or out, from where one can take a boat trip down to Lehon through to the Abbey and ruins of the castle via the lock, or up the river Rance towards St Malo. The view of the port from the viaduct and the ramparts is breathtaking. At the port there are a number of fine restaurants, including'the Atelier Gourmand overlooking the river Rance, and the Restaurant du Viaduc, above the harbour, near the viaduct. In the centre of Dinan, in Place des Cordeliers, the restaurant 'Mr Robert' is highly recommended
